About Community Forests Pemba
Who We Area
Community Forests Pemba (CFP) is a non-profit organization based in Zanzibar, Tanzania, working to build climate resilience through community-led environmental solutions. For over 15 years, we have partnered with rural communities across Pemba and Unguja Islands to restore forests, reduce poverty, and promote social equity.

What We Do
Community Forests Pemba supports community-led efforts to adapt to climate change, protect forests, and build sustainable livelihoods. Our work combines traditional knowledge and nature-based solutions to address the root causes of vulnerability—like environmental degradation, poverty, and inequality.
Through regenerative agroforestry, we help farmers improve food production, restore soil health, and generate income. We support coastal communities in conserving and replanting mangrove forests that protect shorelines and biodiversity. We also equip local leaders with the tools and training they need to drive climate adaptation in their own communities.
Across all our work, we focus on inclusion—especially the leadership of women and youth—knowing that long-term resilience depends on equity, participation, and local ownership. By investing in people and ecosystems together, CFP is helping communities build a future where both forests and families thrive.
Where We Work
Community Forests Pemba works across Zanzibar’s two main islands—Unguja and Pemba—supporting rural communities on the frontlines of climate change.
